Statement of Objectives and Ethics

In compliance with Article I section 2 of the bylaws of MT 43 News, Inc. we, the members of the Board of Directors, do hereby make known to the public this Statement of Objectives and Ethics. Be it known that Article VII of the Articles of Incorporation of MT 43 News, Inc. states:

”It is the right of the public served by this corporation to govern and participate in government in an informed manner and it is the duty of this corporation to provide, insofar as it is possible, unbiased and thorough information for the promotion of an informed public.“

And:

”All activities deemed public by nature or under the entitlement of law—be they local, regional, national, or international—shall be considered within the scope of publication limited only by available printing space and corporation resources needed to secure, edit, and publish information about said activities.“

Therefore, it is the will of the Board of Directors that those working with or for MT 43 News, Inc.—notably its publisher, editors, journalists, reporters, and administrators, but extending to all parties who conduct business with or through MT 43 News, Inc.—shall agree to abide by this Statement of Objectives and Ethics, adopted from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Preamble

Public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough. An ethical journalist acts with integrity.

MT 43 News, Inc. declares these four principles as the foundation of ethical journalism.

Seek Truth and Report It

Ethical journalism should be accurate and fair. Journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Journalists should:

Minimize Harm

Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.

Journalists should:

Act Independently

The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.

Journalists should:

Be Accountable and Transparent

Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one’s work and explaining one’s decisions to the public.
